This is a quote of the post that TB made on the 3rd of January 2010 on http://wcradio.com/
WoW Radio began in October of 2004, as a one man show hosted by athalus on a site that was little more than plain text. Over the years it has grown into one of the biggest gaming broadcast groups on the internet, broadcast Blizzcon several times, hosted countless interviews with World of Warcraft and Gaming luminaries and produced almost 2000 shows covering all aspects of World of Warcraft. But now, it is time to move on.
In a month’s time, WoW Radio will broadcast it’s final show and close the book on this astonishing adventure. However, this is not the end. The staff feel that we have outgrown our old shells and are off in search of new ones. Instead of just one station, you will be getting several different diverse sites and shows from the hosts you love and more besides as individuals and groups of WoW Radio staff go off to form their own sites and organisations.
Those of you worried about the archives can rest easy, we have a permanent hosting solution on which they will be kept for download. Our forums, our vent server and our IRC channel will also remain to help the community make the transition. WoW Radio’s website will be transformed into a hub, telling you exactly where everyone is and what they’re doing, providing you with links to their new sites and shows, plus RSS feeds for easy subscription.
I can’t speak for the other staff, who will tell you of their own plans on their shows and forums, but I can speak for myself and what I intend to do in future. I have a new site which will be ready to launch very soon, which I will be continuing to broadcast Blue Plz!, Gaming the System and a brand new, daily gaming news show entitled Gaming Express. This site will feature it’s own forums, blog comment system and substantially more regular content than you’re used to seeing from me. Without the responsibility of managing a large, volunteer organisation, I expect to be able to focus my efforts on what I’ve always loved, producing top-quality audio content for you. A link to this site will be provided once it has been launched.
I think it’s fair to say that the last 5 years have not all been smooth-sailing. We’ve endured more headaches and heartaches than we deserved, but we also had great times. I am proud to be called a part of this community and honoured to have worked alongside such talented individuals. Everyone on staff appreciates your listenership and contribution to this community and we hope to see you stick around as we bring this era to a close. It is not without sadness that I make this announcement but it is also with expectation of even more top-quality shows from the staff and myself in the future as we pursue our own interests. I am sure that our enthusiasm for our new, individual directions and focusses, will translate into better shows for you.
Goodnight… and good morning.
Edit by Kyle: Along with the solo projects that will arise from the ashes, under the banner of Original Media for Gamers, the following shows, in addition to a slew of additional content, will continue to exist on a new site that will be launched the instant WoW Radio closes its doors:
The Donut Shop with The Donut Boys
MaxSpeed with Speedyf40, Maxmaps, and Kae
Essence of RP with Almighty Farseer and Kexman
But Wait! There’s Lore! with Shinoda and Snapplemonkey
And many more!
More on the above announcement will follow in the weeks to come.
/salute and /respect for the WOW Radio staff
