Dragon Age: Origins-Conclusion to the dwarf zone quests

After being saved by Duncan and his fellow Gray Wardens my dwarf ended up becoming a Gray Warden, fighting and losing at Ostagar then being miraculously saved by "The witch of the wild". After waking up I started to search for allies to create an army to defeat the darkspawn and the arch demon.
Yes an very hard task but not impossible. One of the allies that I was supposed to rally were the dwarfs and being an exile most of the NPCs didn't look to kindly of me being there(can you imagine that...). After joining a side you do some stupid quests, speak to this guy, kill this crime lord, battle hoards of darkspawn, monsters and complete certain puzzles you get to chose whom the next king will be. My problem is that I can't be the new king. Why is that? I may be an exile but why not? I could have taken advantage of the hole paragons and provings show the will of the ancestors thing. Still it was nice to get revenge. And here are some screen shots from the side quests that you get if you bring shale with you.
